While this book is, overall, lighthearted in tone, it does touch on themes of grief, related to past wartime loss of a spouse (and also a somewhat estranged parent).

This monster romance contains a human/sea monster pairing, plus a magical curse and (somewhat mild) familial/parental estrangement.
